The Island Packet reports a Hilton Head Island High School Spanish teacher was arrested Tuesday by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office after sending inappropriate pictures to a 16-year-old student and asking the student to buy marijuana for her.Margaret LaMantia, 23, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disseminating harmful m aterial to a minor, according to a news release.LaMantia has been a long-term substitute teaching Spanish at the school this year but is no longer an employee of the Beaufort County School District, spokesman Jim Foster said Wednesday.According to a Sheriff's Office release, the student's parents filed a report with the school resource officer after they found out about what they believed to be an inappropriate relationship with their son.LaMantia and the student first made contact at school and exchanged phone numbers before Thanksgiving. Then on Nov. 29 and 30, LaMantia sent pictures of her genetalia to the student through the SnapChat phone application, the release said.She also later asked the student to buy marijuana for her, which the student agreed to and bought a small amount.According to the release, LaMantia picked the student up from his job at the Hilton Head Island Recreation Center and they rode around the island for several hours before dropping him off at home.After the student's parents learned that their son had been fired from his job for smelling like marijuana, they began asking him questions and his contact with LaMantia became apparent.More here
