NY Daily News reports Desire Santiago, 21, stole the pair of hoop earrings on Dec. 5 from the Hunts Point day care facility, police said. When the girl came home, her mom noticed the child was missing the jewelry and called police.A Bronx day care worker roused a napping baby from her sleep and callously stole precious bling right from the 18-month-old girl’s ears.The shameful crime was caught on a surveillance camera, leading to the arrest of Desire Santiago, the mother of a 2-year-old girl.The video taken inside a Bronx day care shows Santiago, 21, wearing a white scarf on her head like a bandanna. She picked up little Amia Santana and put the girl on her lap. A co-worker left the room and Santiago plucked the gold-and-diamond hoop earrings from her pierced lobes.
“To do this to a baby is unbelievable,” Amia’s mother, Samantha Viera, 23, told the Daily News.“Luckily our daughter is unaware of this because she’s so little,” said Viera as her adorable girl ran around her Bronx apartment.The tot’s grandfather gave her the $100 earrings in March on her first birthday.
